Growth Isn't Difficult. Complexity Is.
Every successful organisation eventually encounters a paradox. The very systems, decisions and habits that once enabled growth begin to constrain it. What once felt agile and intuitive gradually becomes structured, layered and increasingly difficult to navigate.
Growth introduces more people, more customers, more products and greater expectations. Decisions that were once made in a single conversation become processes involving multiple stakeholders. Informal communication gives way to meetings, reports and approval chains.
Complexity rarely arrives through one significant event. It accumulates quietly through duplicated responsibilities, fragmented information, competing priorities and well-intentioned decisions made without a shared perspective.
Organisations seldom lose momentum because their people become less capable. More often, they lose momentum because complexity begins consuming the time, energy and attention that should be invested in creating value.
Business performance is rarely limited by effort. It is more often limited by organisational clarity.
